The State Department has been and still is, Darien. I would lean to the idea that this won't make a ripple, since it's primarily about passports.

You mean you haven't memorized Gentleman's Agreement? Darien Connecticut is the little suburb community that was 'restricted'. Where the house was located, the one that Dorothy McGuire was reluctant to lease to John Garfield for fear of what the neighbors would do--like shunning.
